1.WILLIAM HEAVNER

 

    William Heavner was born Wilhelm Hoffner in Germany about 1680 and

was tomahawked and killed at Ft. Seybert in Pendleton County VA April

28, 1758.

    The William Hefner family came to the port of Philadelphia, PA about

1740, beginning with Nicholas Hoffner, (Nicholas Heavner) who arrived

October 25, 1738 on the ship "Davy", William Patton, Master. On

September 3, 1739, his brother, Ludwig, arrived aboard the "Friendship"

William Vittery, Master. Both ships sailed from Rotterdam. Shortly

thereafter Wilheln Hoffner and sons Edward and Peter and one sister

arrived.

6.NICHOLAS HEAVNER    1.WILLIAM HEAVNER

 

    Nicholas Heavner, a son of William Heavner, was born in Germany

about 1710 and died in Pendleton County VA in 1769. He married Elizabeth

Seibert in Lancaster County PA.

    Nicholas arrived at the port of Philadelphia, PA October 25, 1738 on

the ship "Davy", William Patton, Master. Nicholas and possibly others of

his family settled in Lancaster County, PA, where he was farmer. While

living in Lancaster County, Nicholas married Elizabeth Seibert in 1740.

Elizabeth, a daughter of Christopher and Anna Johanna Seibert, was born about 1720 and died after 1786 in Berks County PA. She married Christian Lauer June 30, 1770 in Berks County PA. He was born April 10, 1715.

    Between 1750 and 1753, the Heavners migrated to Pendleton County VA.

By 1755 William, the father, had a home one mile above Brandywine. The

farm was located on both sides of the South Fork of the South Branch of

the Potomac River.

      The naturalization papers of Havener are still in existence, and plainly show the seal of "Our Sovereign Lord King George, the third." The date of the instrument is May 18, 1761, which bears also the signature of Fran Farquier.

"His Majesty's Lieutenant Governor and Commander-in chief of the Colony and Dominion of Virginia."

      Jacob Heavner, a son of Nicholas and Elizabeth (Seibert) Heavner. was born about 1742 in Lancaster County PA. He married Mary Mallow May 25, 1765 in Pendleton County VA. Mary, a daughter of Johann Michale and Mary (Miller) Mallow, was born March 9, 1746 in Pendleton County VA and died after December 4, 1804.

    Fredrick Heavner, a son of Nicholas and Elizabeth (Seibert) Heavner,

was born in Lancaster County PA August 7, 1744 and died in OPendleton County VA in January 1811. He married Ester "Rachel" Peck about 1772. Ester,a daughter of Garrett Peck, was born about 1754.

    Jacob Heavner, a son of Fredrick and Ester "Rachel" (Peck) Heavner, was born May 12, 1773 in Highland County, VA and died there February 28, l860. He married Catherine "Callie" Swadley in 1799. Catherine, a daughter of Marcus "Henry" and Mary (Benson) Swadley, was born in Pendleton Country VA February 28, 1777 and died January 1, 1862 in Highland County.

    Jacob served in the American Revolution as an ensign, commissioned March 27, 1780 by the Rockingham County Court in Harrisonburg, VA.

      Catherine Heavner, a daughter of Nicholas and Mary Sophia (Propst) Heavner, was born in Pendleton County VA about 1795 and died in Upshur County WV August 19, 1877. She married John Dean Jr. March 23, 1814. John Jr., a son of John Dean, was born December 1, 1788 in Rockingham County VA and died April 18, 1876 in Upshur County WV.

      John served in the War of 1812, enlisting September 3 1814, discharged October 20 1814. He served afterward from December 31, 1814 to February 27, 1815 in Captain Wamsley's Company of Virginia Militia. Elizabeth was granted a pension of 8 dollars per month from April 19, 1876 to a day after her death.

She was born February 14, 1809 in Pendleton County and died August 2, 1902 in Upshur County WV.

         Elias is listed as a farmer and tavern keeper in the 1860 Upshur County VA census.

      Sarah married Samuel Bonner in Randolph County February 2, 1840.

Highland County.

      Jacob W. Heavner, a son of Elias and Elizabeth (Hyre) Heavner, was born in Lewis Country VA January 27, 1841. He married Leah Anna Reger June 1, 1871. Leah, a daughter of John W. and Rebecca Anna (Brown) Reger, was born at Kingwood, WV and died may 5, 1917.

      Jacob joined the Union Army about the beginning of the Civil War, but was captured in a raid made by General Jenkins on Buckhannon held a prisoner from August 1862 until March 1863. After being exchanged by general order Jacob helped organize Company M of the Third West Virginia Cavalry, and was elected a first lieutenant and was with his regiment for two years, participating in the raid on Lynchburg and in the campaigns in the Shenandoah Valley under Custer and Sheridan. For special gallantry he was promoted to captain and received the brevet rank of major. Captain Heavner was mustered out at Wheeling in July, 1865.

      William “Amos” Heavner, a son of Reuben and Sarah F. (Folks) Heavner, was born about 1830 in Randolph County VA and died December 27, 1865. He was a step son of Samuel Bonner and is buried in the Bonner family cemetery at Blue Springs, WV. He married Jane Folks.

      Adam Lewis Heavner, a son of William and Jane (Folks) Heavner, was born December 22, 1863 in Webster County WV and died there October 16, 1929.  He married Diana Eva Dodrill November 3, 1887 in Webster County. Diana, a daughter of Addison and Elmira (Gregory) Dodrill, was born in 1864 in Webster County and died there in 1937.

Lina, a daughter of Jacob and Rebecca (Hamrick) Conrad, was born November 21, 1892 in Webster County WV and died 1992 in Lake County OH.

William, a son of John and Rebecca Jane (Gregory) Hamrick, was born in Randolph Country WV January 27, 1875 and died there November 3, 1962.  He married Malinda Hamrick September 23, 1900. Malinda, a daughter of Judson B. and Jane W. (Dodrill) Hamrick, was born in Webster County WV June 17, 1881 and died there February 7, 1907.

Arthur’s second wife is unknown.
