I'm looking for information and or a picture of the Washburn School which was located on what is now Hidden Valley Road near where it intersects with what is now called Chub Run. (This area is now a part of the Good Hope community.) At the time it was adjacent property owned by William E. and Virginia (Cheuvront) Hacker. I know it was there until at least 1913. Some of the students who went there around 1910 were: Roy Cork; Hattie, Alta, Pearl and Doy Nevel; Phala, Burl, Rush and Clyon Southern; Presley Nutter; and Arlett and Vance Vanscoy. At least three or four of the Hacker children, including Boyd and Brooks Hacker, also attended there. I that the Harrison County (West Virginia) Board of Education still owns the property. (And, unless someone can prove otherwise, I don't think it became what was later known as the Cottrill School.) If anyone has any information about it, this might be a good thing for a FB discussion. Thanks for any help.
Joy, I don't have any info on that school however I have started looking into The Crooked Run School at Alum Bridge. I have a picture of it and some other things, students, teachers etc. It was located on our old Garton farm but when it was built the Mertz family owned it. I will be making a trip to Weston this spring (from New Mexico) and hope to research deeds at the court house. Good luck with your search!! George Garton
