"McCally and McCalley." The spelling that appears in various records

will be used in this paper so far as practical.

1.JAMES MCCALLY

James McCally was born in Scotland about 1742 and died in Lewis County VA September 10, 1810.

James married Elizabeth Watson, a daughter of Jonathan and Catherine (Hunter) Watson. Elizabeth died in Harrison County VA December 4, 1834.

James and Elizabeth were married in Scotland and came to America about 1775 and had a child born in Augusta County VA in 1776. They lived in Pendleton County VA (WV) on the South Branch of the Potomac River. They relocated to Lewis County VA about 1800.

7.HENRY MCCALLY 1.JAMES MCCALLY

Henry McCally, a son of James and Elizabeth (Watson) McCally, was born in 1790, probably in Pendleton County VA (WV) and died in Lewis County KY in 1872. He married Sarah Alkire in Harrison County VA September 12, 1809 or August 27, 1810. Sarah, was a daughter of John and Christina (McCann/Wolf) Alkire, was born in VA about 1793.

They moved to OH, but returned to Lewis County VA about 1840. After the Civil War, Henry was disenfranchised because of his Southern sympathies and vowed "I'm going to KY and find my grave among strangers." He moved to Lewis County KY and was buried at Vanceburg.

1.JAMES MCCALLY

Jacob P. McCally, a son of Prudence McCally, was born in OH March 13, 1833. He married Cynthia Jane Rohrbaugh in Lewis County WV December 25, 1859. Cynthia, a daughter of Abraham and Julia Ann (Dean) Rohrbaugh, was born in Lewis County about 1841 and died about 1880.

Jacob traveled to Hillsboro, Pocahontas County in 1862 and enlisted in Company C. 17th Virginia Cavalry. CSA. While recruiting behind enemy lines, he was arrested by Union troops in Roane County VA. In October of 1863 and was sent to Military Prison at Wheeling VA (Atheneum Prison), then to Camp Chase at Columbus, OH and then to Fort Delaware, DE. He was released after taking the Oath of Allegiance on June 20, 1865. All Jacob and Cynthia's children were born in Braxton County VA (WV).

Jacob married Emysey E. Heater in Gilmer county WV October 1, 1885. Emsey was born in Braxton County VA about 1835.

NOTE. Jacob used the spelling McCally, McCalley and McCauley at

different times.

March 28, 1875. Sarah, a daughter of Hezekiah and Diana (Shock)

Boggs, was born in Braxton County VA (WV) February 27, 1852 and died

October 21, 1909.

1904. Ella, a daughter of Marion and Luverna (Carpenter) Phillips,

was born in Roane County July 1, 1885 and died there December 13,

1969.

Note that John Dee uses the spelling McCauley instead of the

older "McCally".
