2.JOHN POTASNIK 1.MICHAEL POTASNIK

John Potasnik, a son of Michael and Anna Potasnik, was born

in Poland July 16, 1892 and died in Clay County WV June 15, 1968.

In 1912, John started to the United States and was stopped by the

German police. In 1914, he succeeded in getting through the

German lines and coming to America.

John married Mary Knutelski in Pennsylvania May 15, 1915.

Mary, a daughter of George and Mary Knutelski, was born in Poland

March 25, 1896. She came to America on a ticket furnished by an

aunt in New York.

The couple lived in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Ohio before

coming to Widen, WV.

3.JOSEPH POTASNIK 1.MICHAEL POTASNIK

Joseph Potasnik, a son of Michael and Anna Potasnik, was born

in Poland about 1894 and came to America with his brother John in

1914. He married Ruby H. Henderson. Ruby, a daughter of Walker W. and

Vernice (Bragg) Hendrson, was born in 1925 and died in Bourg, LA March

11, 2002.

Sharon Manning Evers remember the family living on Kanawha Street

in Widen, WV. "Joe played the accordion and spoke Polish; I was

fascinated by that."

7.TED POTASNIK 2.JOHN POTASNIK 1.MICHAEL POTASNIK

Ted Potasnik, a son of John and Mary (Knutelski) Potasnik,

was born in Widen WV January 13, 1925 and died there July 31, 2001. He

married Anna Marlene Cooper February 18, 1949. Anna, a daughter of

Lambert Myers and Rebecca (Mollohan) Cooper, was born in Clay County

January 12, 1930.

Ted served in the US Coast Guard in World War II and participated in the D

Day Invasion of France in 1942.
