1.JOHN STONE

 

    John Stone was born in England in 1824 and died in Clay County WV in 1905.  He came to Newport News, VA in 1839 and met and married Nancy Eliza Shumacher in 1843. Eliza was born in VA in March 1821.  About 1873, the family moved to Clay County WV and located at Lizemores.

    They are listed in the 1900 Clay County WV census. They had been married 57. years. Eliza was the mother of 12 children, with 6 living.

    Emily Stone, a daughter of John and Nancy Eliza (Shumacher) Stone, was born in VA about 1851 and came to Clay County WV with her family about 1873.  She married Frank Walker.

    John L. Stone Jr., a son of John and Nancy Eliza (Shumacher) Stone, was

born in VA in January 1855 and came to Clay County WV with his family in 1873.  He married Margaret R. "Sis" Legg. Margaret was born in VA in June 1854.

      The family is listed in the 1900 Clay County WV census. They had been married 24 years. Margaret was the mother of 11 children, with 9 living.

    Thomas Stone, a son of John and Nancy Eliza (Shumacher) Stone, was born in VA about 1855 and died in Clay County WV before 1900. He came to Clay County WV with his family in 1873.  He married Martha Hypes. Martha, a daughter of John M. and Rachel Hypes, was born in VA in July 1857.

      Martha is listed in the 1900 Clay county WV census. She was the mother of 8 children, with 6 living.

    Harriet Stone, a daughter of John and Nancy Eliza (Shumacher) Stone, was born in VA in June 1853. She married a widower, Lewis T. Morton, in Clay County WV January 3, 1872. Lewis, a son of Thomas T. and Milly (Young) Morton, was

born in February 1846. He married Martha Sizemore Janaury 11, 1865. He

married Harriet Stone in Clay County WV January 3, 1872.

    The family is listed in the 1900 Clay County WV census. They had been married 28 years. Harriet was the mother of 9 children, all living.

    Sarah Stone, a daughter of John and Nancy Eliza (Shumacher) Stone, was born in VA in February 1858 and came to Clay County WV with her family in 1873.  She married Winfield Scott Legg. Scott, a son of Jarrett and Frances (McMillion)

Legg, was born in VA in February 1848.

    James Stone, a son of John and Nancy Eliza (Shumacher) Stone, was born in VA in April 1861 and came to Clay County WV with his family in 1873.  He married Mary M. Ramsey. Mary, a daughter of Jackson and Mary Ramsey, was born in WV in February 1865 and died before 1930.

    Philip Nicodemus "Nick" Stone, a son of John and Nancy Eliza (Shumacher)

Stone, was born in VA about 1863 and came to Clay County Wv with his family in 1873.  He married Sadie Copenhaver. Sadie was born in WV in April 1873. They are listed in the 1900 Clay County WV census. Sadie was the mother of 5 children, all living.

     Philip is listed in the 1930 Clay County Wv census with 56 year old wife Roxie. This is probably a typographical error in the transcription of written reports to printed matter.

Stone, was born in Clay County WV July 10, 1915 and died in Kanawha County WV May 10, 2005. He married Ruby Morton. Ruby was born in 1920 and died in Kanawha

County WV August 26, 1999.

      Henry served in the US Army in World War II.

Emogene, a daughter of Frederick Grant and Nona Arrena (Keeney) Morton, was born in Braxton County WV December 8, 1924 and died in Kanawha County WV October 22, 2006.

Russell E. “Buck” Stone, a son of William Bryan and Donna Edith (Jones) Stone, was born in Fayette County WV April 18, 1925 and died December 8, 2009. He married Betty Lee Dotson in 1944. She survives.

      Russell was a US Army Veteran of Word War II, with service in Europe in the 3rd Armored Division. He worked 36 years for Appalachian Power Company and was an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene.
