James W. Umstead was born in Ohio about 1831 and died in

Calhoun County WV in 1927. He served the Union in the Civil War

in 2nd W.Va. Volunteer Infantry. He married Mary Seals. Mary

was born in Ohio about 1836.

The family moved to Calhoun County WV between 1870 and 1880.

Umstead, was born April 14, 1865 and died in Calhoun County WV in

1933. He married Clarinda "India" Freed. Clarinda, a daughter

of Abraham and Susanna Freed, was born about 1869 and died in

Calhoun County in 1957.

Clarinda (Freed) Umstead, was born in Calhoun County WV June 17,

1900 and died there in 1958. He married Lillian Grace Thornbury

December 25, 1925. Lillian was born at Mouthcard, KY and died in

Calhoun County in 1958.
